[This was what I put together when I was starting Studious back in 2013. It’s actually still pretty relevant/meaningful, kinda funny.]

Hey, hi.  My name is Bryant Howe and I’m the one doing “Studious Amplifiers.”

I’ve been involved with amplifiers for a while now.  Back in the day I used to modify old tube stereo receivers into guitar and instrument amplifiers for use in bands and noise projects I was playing in.  This was mid-2000s when I was living in San Francisco’s mission district.  Eventually people started becoming interested in my amps and asking if I could build them their own or help improve/mod/fix their old tube amplifiers.  So I did.  Not for money or as a business or anything, just because I found it interesting and really enjoyed seeing people get excited about their sound.

In 2009 I moved to Chicago and was randomly put in touch with the guys at Emperor Custom Cabinets here in the city.   I liked what they were doing so I started designing and building unique, high gain, high wattage circuits with them.  The amps were well received; Weezer, The Melvins, The Jesus Lizard and Jeff the Brotherhood amongst others have used them on tour and in recordings.  Eventually I felt like doing something a little more in-line with my personal tastes, so I started Studious Amplifiers (in addition to Emperor’s amplifier line).

I know it's cliche', but I wanted Studious to be unique. Something that reflected what I value but found lacking in the world of "rock 'n roll" amplifiers.  Sophistication, intelligence, extreme attention-to-detail, simple yet clever, bold without asking for attention and all while maintaining an edge and character of their own.  Unusual concepts to describe a guitar amplifier, but that’s OK.  My amplifiers are not clones, I'm not trying to recreate sounds from over 50 years ago and I do not believe the future of sound & music should be confined by what has been done in the past.  I use high quality components, unique circuit layouts and my own personal conventions/voicings/designs that keep tones as pure as possible and Signal to Noise Ratios higher than hi-fi standards.  Every decision was made for a reason and every step of production is done with a purpose.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my project, I honestly appreciate your interest.

Sincerely,

bryant
